- Jun'ya Ōta (太田 順也 Ōta Jun'ya), who was then a 17-year-old mathematics student at Tokyo Denki University working under the name 'ZUN Soft', developed the first five Touhou titles for NEC PC-9800 personal computers, utilizing the platform's 16-bit color graphics and 6-channel FM synthesis audio.
PC-88 and PC-98 is kind of confidential outside Japan, but the emulation scene is quite active. PC-88 and PC-98 emulators + download. Recommended emulators are M88 for PC-88 (Windows only) and Neko Project II for PC-98 (Windows / Mac, ported as Xnp2 on Linux). Some games won't work with these emulators, you may try Virtual98 instead (available below).

Emulator - T98-Next is included in the download link which is better than Anex86 for running Touhou games. (To run go to Main DISK under HD DRIVE 1 double click on the empty space beside the red box. Choose game and then click on the top left button with the Japanese text to start game. Bottom left button closes out the emulator.)
